The winners of the 2021 Childnet Film Competition have been announced. Now it’s time to shine the spotlight on the International category!
For the first time, young people who attend school outside of the UK were able to enter the Childnet Film Competition by submitting their short films ahead of the June 14 deadline.
And the response has been truly international, with entries from countries including the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Myanmar, Ireland, India, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Moldova.
The category was fun, free and open for all young people aged 7-18 to enter. The challenge was to create a short film, no longer than two minutes, reflecting a positive message on this year’s theme: Separating fact from fiction. Finding trustworthy information online.
For the past 12 years, The Childnet Film Competition has challenged young filmmakers across the UK to create a short film in response to a given theme. The main criteria is that entries must contain a positive message and be able to educate other young people.
This year, the new International Category enabled young people who attend school outside of the UK to enter across two age groups, for those aged 7-11 and 11-18.
Will Gardner, CEO of Childnet and a Director of the UK Safer Internet Centre, believes the International category has been another great opportunity for young people to help to create a safer and more trustworthy internet.
He said: “The Childnet Film Competition International category provides a platform for young people living around the world to show their creative talents, learn about online safety, and inspire their peers to make positive decisions online.
“It’s a fantastic way to help to educate others and empower young people to be better able to harness and use the positive power of the internet for good.”
The winner of each International category will be announced on September 13.
