Childnet runner storms London Marathon

25 April 2012

Childnet was supported in the London Marathon by London secondary school teacher Andy Marlow, who ran a very swift time in only his 3rd marathon!

We caught up with Andy shortly afterwards when he declared “My legs are in a world of pain but I’m very happy!” to ask him about the day and to thank him for his fantastic fund raising effort.

Donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/Andy-Marlow

What time did you make?

3:20.36

What was your overall impression of the day?

The most awesome sporting experience I’ve ever been involved in. I’ve run quite a few races and nothing comes even remotely close to London in terms of the support and sense of occasion.

What was your race highlight?

The crowd – I was cheered on all of the way. This may have contributed to me starting out too quickly, but it kept a big smile on my face for most of the race and made sure I kept going when times were tough. It was great seeing my friends and family, but the screaming support of complete strangers is what left a lasting impression.

Any low points?

Any time after mile 17! I had severe cramp in my hamstrings and had to stop to stretch every mile. It was painful, but the low point was more the frustration of not being able to run as fast as I like to! More training is definitely required next time

Anything else you would like to share?

Many thanks to all those who sponsored me in aid of Childnet and to everyone involved in making the day memorable. I strongly recommend that everyone attempts the London Marathon at some point in their lives.
