Each year in the UK, Safer Internet Day explores a new issue or theme which is impacting the lives of young people in the UK.
The UK Safer Internet Centre have created a vast array of resources to support you in delivering sessions for Safer Internet Day, whether you are a school, nursery, youth group, library, police service or wider.
By helping learners to feel confident and secure, they are more likely to share their ideas and opinions, ask questions, and contribute to discussions without fear of judgment or negative feedback.
Last time, we spotlighted specific resources in our educational pack to use for 3-7 years; this week, we’re taking a look at what’s in store for 7-11 years.
The Safer Internet Day 2022 educational resources for 7-11 years are designed to be adaptable and accessible to support all learners in this age group when exploring this year’s theme:
What is included in the educational resources for 7-11 years?
Assembly Slides – to support your assembly to 7-11 year olds, we have prepared a 19-slide PowerPoint presentation supported with questions, prompts, pictures and animated icons to maximise engagement from your learners.
Questions to get learners thinking include: How do you have fun online? What does respect mean? What does being respectful online look like?
There are also simulated examples of gaming chat forums put to your pupils to make them think about decisions such as sending appropriate responses, withholding personal information, and using reporting or blocking features.
Assembly Script
This will complement the assembly slides for learners aged 7-11. These include prompts to encourage engagement with the questions and activities on the accompanying slides, and even gives pointers about when to pause to allow discussion, and when to click on animated aspects of the presentation.
Lesson Plan
If you have decided to dedicate a whole lesson to your pupils based on this year’s Safer Internet Day, then we have got you covered!
Our lesson plan for 7-11 years lasts for one hour, and includes lesson outcomes and a schedule of a variety of activities including a starter, activities and a plenary. You will also find a separate document of lesson slides to present to your learners to accompany the plan.

Other than download the appropriate educational resources pack, there are a few other things you can be doing if you want this year’s Safer Internet Day to be bigger and better than ever.
