We’re delighted to welcome Jess as the newest member of the Childnet team! We caught up with Jess to find out a bit more her new role here at Childnet.
How have you found working at Childnet so far?
I have really enjoyed my first week at Childnet. The team have been so welcoming and supportive which has really helped me settle in and get to grips with everything. There are so many interesting facets of Childnet and such varied and valuable projects to get involved with. It feels like a really exciting time to join.
What did you do before coming to Childnet? How will this help you in your new role?
I have spent seven years teaching predominantly English in London secondary schools. I have had two curriculum roles, so I am experienced in creating engaging educational content for a range ages and needs. Likewise, I worked in a pastoral role with Year 11 and then 7, which exposed me to the complex, rich and sometimes challenging experiences children of all ages have on the internet. I also volunteer online for a mental health organisation. I am looking forward to combining all these experiences to help young people enjoy and utilise the internet as a force for good.
What part of working at Childnet are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to being part of a team that is at the forefront of trends and developments and which works to make the online space inclusive, useful and safe for all young people. When circumstances allow, I am also very excited to visit schools across the UK and communicate with students to help empower and protect them and best promote their interests.
What is your top online safety tip?
Remember that everything you see online has been carefully selected, edited and cultivated. It is easy to believe that everyone else is having a better time than you so remember that you are only getting half the story.
