Today is the Childnet Film Competition finalists’ event! This is where we will be celebrating the amazing work of the competition finalists and announcing who will take 1st, 2nd and 3rd place home in each category!
Now in its tenth year, and delivered as part of Childnet’s work in the UK Safer Internet Centre, this national competition invites young people aged 7-18 to create short films to inspire their peers to use technology safely, responsibly and positively.
Harnessing the positive power of digital creativity, the project gives young people an opportunity to take the lead in educating and empowering young people in their school and across the UK.
With entries from children and young people right across the UK, and today the 6 winning entries will be showcased at a private screening at the BFI in London attended by industry guests and all of the young filmmakers. The films are all BBFC rated and will be shown on the big screen before the winners are announced and prizes awarded.

So who are our finalists and what are their films about?
Bromley High Junior School – Our Future Online
A cautionary tale about 2 friends who learn the consequence of their actions if they share a mean comment online. A fortunate visit from the voice inside their computer shows them what will happen if they send that message.
Belthorn Academy Primary School – Childnet Report
This film transports us to a newsroom in the future. Set 10 years from now, we find out what changes have been made to improve the internet for people around the world.
Sandown School – The internet belongs to me and this is how it is going to be
Told through stop motion animation, a catchy tune and spoken word, this film compares present day use of the internet to that of a brighter and more positive future online.
Christleton High School – New Tools, Better Outcomes
Using clay animation as a metaphor to demonstrate the potential of the internet, the students from Christleton share what they would like their future internet to look like.
South Hampstead High School – The Adventures of Mr Button
Whist waiting to be interviewed for a dream job, Mr Button Man decides to send a quick tweet.
But is he really thinking about what he posts? A film that looks at how your digital footprint could affect your future?
Super 8 Stage and Screen School – InterYet To Come
Amelie is paid a visit from a couple of interesting characters who want to show her the benefit of age appropriate laws for the internet and how these will help everyone in the future.
